ATM NYC Series
I was advised by my supervisor and HODs to go with this idea and scrap all my other work. This removes the performer's body completely, I put an email address within the underwear on a tissue for anyone to write to me. The words "share" and "exchange" refer to both the sexual act and the taboo actions of getting money out of the ATM, both private actions. Putting money in and out of machines and taking a tissue out of women's underwear is a provocative action also referencing stripping and consuming/eating. It also looks like a period pad. The words are also asking for someone to email me, so there is the implication of contact exchange, anonymous online sharing, perhaps even dating. Perhaps the work implies sexual violence, abuse or soliciting; sex work. Whether someone emails or not has yet to be seen and what will be shared or exchanged also. Will this create a dialogue or go nowhere? I put these in ATMs around New York City at New years 2013. It can be done anywhere in the world and feels very perverted, like I am a criminal breaking the law. A protester, a feminist guerilla actionist. It is a performance in itself. If there is exchange it will be a miracle.
TAKING THE FLUIDS "FURTHER": NYC SUICIDE/MURDER BATHROOM CRIME SCENE: 'ANOTHER creative CHILD ABORTED' ANOTHER WOMAN'S ART WHICH IS "TOO PERSONAL" as CULPRIT/VICTIM as funny: Another finger pointed and PERIOD BLOOD AS MY PAINT IN PROTEST SPLATTERED
In response to the crit in NYC in which I was told the work was 'superficial' and 'too personal' and also 'let's see more fluids' (Mary Tan) I decided to document the next period and take fluids/dialogue further/deeper: which is NORMALISED AND UNSACRILISED/ UNSACRED AND SACRED AND TABOO AND NOT PAINFUL AND NOT VULNERABLE BECAUSE IT IS "EVERYDAY RITUAL" FOR ALL WOMEN ALONG WITH NUDITY FOR ALL HUMANS... and reinact a satirical crime scene/suicide in which i used my own period blood and objectified my own body as if it were a corpse, finger as a culprit, another creative child dead, another female artist whose work as body as political as normal as currency as nothing and everything UN/SACRED UN/POWERFUL... because I thought it was a comment on the art world. In NYC.
TAKING THE FLUIDS "FURTHER": NYC SUICIDE/MURDER BATHROOM CRIME SCENE: 'ANOTHER creative CHILD ABORTED' ANOTHER WOMAN'S ART WHICH IS "TOO PERSONAL" and vulnerable (lol!) as CULPRIT/VICTIM as funny: Another finger pointed and PERIOD BLOOD AS MY PAINT IN PROTEST SPLATTERED... "demonstration" of attacking criticism, my creativity as my fertility, bleeding and LAUGHING.... as it bleeds, on the NYC bathroom floor "gross". All cliches of course. Hype, media and art. Women's body, currency, art, talk, demonstration, point, protest. Miss Understood. "Slaughtered".

Performance for Winter Residency Crit 2012 NYC
https://vimeo.com/55405133
WOW 7000 HITS!!!! Good old nudity ay?
Shame it went down like a cold cup of sick in the winter residency. Guess no one was ready for it. Nudity is very normal, this is the point, we are naked everyday. We use money every day. It is sacred/unsacred. I felt like a buddha with them putting money on my body, but people refered to once again, stripping and prostitution. I am attempting to find new ways of looking at this relationship, not obvious and cliched ones. Shake it off ... YES!

Linda Mary Montano is a pioneer in performance art. Since the 1960’s, she has explored how artistic ritual, often staged as individual interactions or collaborative workshops, can be used to enhance a person's daily life, to create the opportunity for attentional spiritual energy states, to encourage inner silence and to alter the cessation of art/life boundaries. Montano's work can be viewed at www.lindamontano.com, as well on her blog and on YouTube.
